ANNOUNCING A NEW CLASS!
The new class, "Managing Emergency Incidents
on the Roadway" is now available to be scheduled. This class
was created by the Emergency Responder Safety Institute, part of the
National Traffic Incident Management Coalition, but is not currently
endorsed by the PA State Fire Academy. Nonetheless, it is a free
class and well worth taking. For more information, email Instructor
Tom Kupiszewski.
Managing Emergency Incidents on the Roadway
is a 6-8 hour indoor class that features 3-4 hours of
powerpoint slides and videos followed by 3-4 hours of hands-on
tabletop role-playing exercises. The class is intended for everyone
who responds to emergency incidents, including fire and EMS
personnel, fire police, police, DOT, towing companies and the media.
It can be held on one day (usually a Saturday or Sunday) or on two
3-4 hour weeknights.

The goal of the class is to increase the safety of those responding to emergency incidents, raise awareness of safety concerns while on-scene, reduce the amount of time needed to clear emergencies and ensure that everyone goes home as quickly and safely as possible. This is accomplished through the development of interagency teamwork (fire, EMS, police, DOT, towing companies and media) and improved communications among all responding agencies.
More information about this class, as well as many outstanding training materials and sources of information can be found at the website of the Emergency Responder Safety Institute, www.respondersafety.com.
